Termite Emergency Services

Got Termites? Call Us Right Now.

Termites and other wood destroying insects are no laughing matter. Termites cause billions of dollars in damage each year. They primarily feed on wood, but also damage paper, books, insulation, and much more. When you see them, you are seeing the tip of the iceberg. There are very likely thousands of winged termites hidden behind the walls, silently feasting on your home.

Your home is often the single largest purchase you will ever make. Termites are a major threat to that investment. Furthermore, most insurance plans don’t cover treatment or repairs due to termites. If you see termites, consider it an emergency. Call us immediately and we can help to minimize the damage and impact that they could make.

Quick Termite Facts

Termites are ‘detritivores’ or ‘detritus feeders’. They feed on dead plants, dead trees, and dead parts of living trees, including fallen branches and wood in the soil. All termites consume cellulose-based plant materials. Regardless of what type of home construction you have, your home will be able to provide ripe cellulose food for termite infestation.

Termite workers only measure between 1 cm and a few millimeters in length. House foundations, furniture, walls, window sills, and shelve are all possible feeding sites for termites. Subterranean termite homes are usually formed in soil. Within these mounds, termites build elaborate tunnel systems and mud tunnels through which they access above-ground food sources. Conversely, drywood termites live within the wood they consume and oftentimes infest walls and furniture.

Once a colony has matured, you will likely see winged, swarming termites around windows and doors. The winged termites are highly attracted to sources of light and are most active in springtime. After mating, these termites locate a new breeding site and create another colony, spreading infestations throughout multiple locations in the case of drywood termites.

Termite bait or liquid treatments are the best ways to prevent termites from getting into your home and causing damage. Another important preventative measure is eliminating wood to soil contact and resolving any moisture problems. None of these are definite protection, though.
